Bed & Breakfast On North Uist
North Uist is a fascinating island having similarities with the Isle of Harris to the North and South Uist to the South. Like Harris, North Uist has hills but they are not as harsh but not as soft as those on South Uist, there are plenty of lochs, lochans and moorland as well as a wonderful coastline. At one time the island sustained a population of around five thousand, mainly employed in the kelp industry. Unfortunately when this industry failed, and during the time of the clearances, the population quickly fell and today the population is less than two thousand. The main population centre (and best place for bed & breakfast) is the town/village of Lochmaddy.
