Strome Cottage Self Catering Accommodation

Strome Cottage : Scalpay Self Catering Accommodation
The cottage is situated on a small tidal inlet off the South Harbour of the island, and on a clear day, the views from the hillock above the house are magnificent – over the Minch to Skye and the Cuillin Mountains and right down the Outer Isles from the Harris Hills to Barra. You cannot drive to the front door. The cottage is approximately 100 yards along a path, from the gate at the roadside. The path is easy to navigate – after wet weather it can be boggy at times near the gate where the ground is level, and be careful too where it slopes if it is slippery after rain. There is a wheelbarrow to cart luggage. Cars can be left on the road lay-by near the gate. If you arrive after dark, remember to take a torch.
Strome Cottage is a typical traditional crofters cottage, built of stone, partly roughcast with a slate roof. It can comfortably accommodate 4 to 5 people, 6 at a pinch. Children and animals are welcome. Boat available - see site link below.
Strome is simply but adequately furnished and is connected to mains electricity and water. Downstairs there is a sitting room with a large open fireplace. It contains a sofa, which pulls out into a double bed, and a single bed which doubles as another sofa. There is a dining room with a peat/coal burning stove, and off this room is a small well equipped kitchen with, sink, cooker and fridge. There is no telephone and no television. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one with two single pine beds and the other with a double pine bed; a bathroom with bath, wash basin and WC, and an airing cupboard. Bed linen, pillows, towels, blankets and duvets for the beds are provided.
