Unfortunately soon after the roof had been replaced it caught fire and the church received a further restoration in 1787. The church must have been derelict not long after this as Ct. Clement's was again restored by Alexander Ross (architect) for the dowager countess of Dunmore in 1873. The roof that is in existance today dates from this "final" restoration.
Alexander MacLeod of Dunvegan and Harris was succeeded as clan leader by his son William who was laid to rest at St. Clement's Church. His tomb is in the south wall and is dated 1551, you will see this tomb as soon as you enter the building as it is virtually opposite the entrance. Even though the church of St. Clement's was not used much after the Reformation it it clear from the graves in the graveyard that people where not adverse to being buried within the churches grounds. A walk around the graveyard can be most informative and the grave pictured to the left is one of several that are enclosed by walls.
