Rodel Hotel: Rodel Hotel, pictured left (click images to enlarge) is a beautiful hotel in the small village / harbour of Rodel. Built in 1781 as a home for Captain Alexander MacLeod of Berneray, who has just bought Harris from his cousin, Norman MacLeod of Dunvegan. Rodel Hotel is an excellent place to stay during your holiday is the Isle of Harris. |

Rodel Hotel has recently been renovated (work not yet complete?). Only a few years back well maybe about 17 years) the bar was around the back of the hotel (to the right of this picture). Sadly the reason for this was that the hotel had fallen into a bad state of repair. The interesting (and confusing) aspect to this "back to front" bar was the back to front clock with the numbers going anti clockwise. |

To enter the bar these days (pictures on next page) you go around to the front (pictered left). Though the bar is very pleasant much can be said for the atmosphere on a Friday night that ws found in the old bar around the back. In more recent years, prior ro the renovation, the bar was in the building that lies to the left of this picture and is still to be renovated (picture at end of this section).

The views around the area are some of the most wonderful. To the right and below are the views from the very front of the building showing one of the two piers that form the inner harbour. Not far from Rodel Hotel is St. Clement's Church which is well worth a visit, the graveyard being most interesting.

This photograph shows the inner harbour with the tide out. There are two small fishing vessels and the hills in the far distance are the hills of Uist. |
