Virtual Hebrides

Looking back from the sand dunes you can see the large expanse of flat sand with the village of Northton in the distance. This large area of flat sand provides excellent ground for sports such as wind surfing. A few years back the "kids" of Northton aranged a circuit on the beach to race old bangers but unfortunately somebody complained and the fun was stopped.

Over to the right of the pictur above is an inlet (pictured right) which is extremely shallow which leads to a larger expanse of shallow water nearer Northton. The tide can fill the whole area but it remains shallow. A rare but amusing site is when a line of sheep walk across the area giving the impression that they are walking on water!.

Often, after a spell of really hot weather, the hills appear to give off "a little steam", they become very misty. This, coupled with low cload can give the appearance of a cloudy day but as we can see from the image to the left, this does not always mean that it is cold. In fact on the day this photo was taken the beach was rather crowded - say about 20 people!. The man to the left is lying soaking in the rays (you can still get badly burnt in this deceptive light) while his family bathes in the sea and the mountain is covered by low cloud.
