About us at Scalpay.com

A couple of years ago Scalpay Digital decided that they would design a website as an online brochure for their business. At that time the internet was still in it's infancy and Scotland was, in general, not very well presented. Scalpay Digital decided that they would include some information on the Isle of Scalpay on their website to allow customers to see where they lived.

As work on scalpay.com progressed the sites popularity increased and the scalpay section grew to an enormous size. One of the services Scalpay Digital offered was the restoration of old photographs. Some time ago Scalpay had a historical society and they managed to amass a large collection of photographs. Scalpay Digital decided to inquire about the collection but unfortunately the society no longer exists. After asking almost everybody they knew the photographs (copies) were located in a cupboard in the Scalpay Community Hall but unfortunately they were in a poor state of repair. After exhaustive work cleaning the images they were scanned ready for further restoration. It was decided that the images would provide interest to the scalpay website so low resolution copies were produced and displayed in the "History" section. This aspect of the site has proved very popular. Several people have allowed us to scan their personal images for display on the site and it is hoped that this assistance will continue and increase.

If there is anybody on the Isle of Scalpay who could take the responsibility of taking care of the original negatives to the vast majority of the images (never to be sold!) - please contact us and we will forward you the details.

Although the scalpay website is run on a none-profit-making basis and is not funded in any way we have received much support from the local council and other bodies. Several people have gone to great length to assist in the development of the site and we wish to thank them for their continued support.

Scalpay Digital ceased trading in 2001, Scalpay.com is now part of the Virtual Hebrides.
