Stolt Sea Farm has a major prescence on The Isle of Scalpay and its current operations are vital to the island's economy. The opening of the fish processing factory (click image to left for enlargement) proved a major event in the history of Scalpay. There are not many families on the island that do not have at least one member working for the company. Check the history section for details on the construction of the Stolt Sea Farm Fish Processing Factory.
The 2880 sq. m plant, operational since March 2001, was constructed by Highlands and Islands Enterprise and is being rented by Stolt on a 20 yr lease. Stolt's is a major direct and indirect employer for the area and many exfishermen now work on Stolt vessels.
