Over the next few pages are the details of the inhabitants of dwelling houses on Scalpay that we have found in the 1881 census of the United Kingdom. We apologise for some of the terminology, which can at time appear insulting but would have been commonplace in 1881. Each page lists one dwelling, we can not be certain if we have included every dwelling house or every inhabitant. If you notice any errors please notify us via email and we will ammend the page. We have recently taken a look at the 1901 census returns on microfilm but sadly, when it comes to the area of Scalpay, the quality is so poor that it is extremely difficult to extract any information. If anybody has a readable copy please let us know and we will attempt to put the details up on the site for all to see. We hope that you enjoy browsing throught the 1881 census returns for the Isle of Scalpay. The information used was submitted by a visitor to the site some time ago but unfortunately the file was lost due to a virus. Luckily using some powerful software we were able to recover the file in its entirety but we can not remember who sent it - you know who you are so thanks anyway and apologies for the delays.
