The Isle of Scalpay Old/Historical Photographs: Welcome to possibly the most popular aspect of the Scalpay website - the old historical photographs. Some time ago Scalpay had its own Historical Society which collected together a large number of old photo's which they copied and displayed at various events. Unfortunately the society ceased and the copies of the photographs were put into storage. When we set about the creation of the Scalpay website we thought that if we were to provide a service to the community it would be a good idea to find these images and place them on the site for all to view. Unfortunately, when we eventually found them they had been very badly damaged and there was a large amount of work to be done before they were even ready for scanning. As we (Scalpay Digital) are involved in various projects which include the restoration of damaged photographs we thought it would be "nice" if we could do the same for the Scalpay photo's. Unfortunately, as you can imagine, this is an enourmous task so we concentrated on getting the images to a reasonable state to display on a computer. Scalpay Historical Photographs - Gallery *The long term intention has always been to restore these photographs to their full photographic resolution but the project hit a set back when 2 people unfortunately developed the idea that we were making profit from the images. The Scalpay website was closed and the project put on hold, unfortunately we feel that although we have started supporting the website again, we will not at this stage resume the restoration project. We would like to state that we NEVER made profit from either the photo's or the site - as most people know websites cost money to maintain.
