Yesterday was Question Day in Tarbert on Harris, the day when devout Christians, having fasted during the previous 24 hours hold their faith up to the scrutiny of self-examination in preparation for Communion tomorrow. But this week in the Outer Hebrides has been less about self-examination by the islanders, than outside scrutiny by mainlanders, who sent their journalists and television crews more often to mock or patronise than to inquire or comprehend. h
