The Harris Walk-Way project has been identified as the next HDL training scheme to be undertaken in Harris. It is hoped that eight jobs will be created over a 12-18 month period. Funding applications have been lodged with partnership agencies and it is hoped that works will begin at the end of the month. Mr Morrison commented, "As a development company serving the needs of Harris, we are committed to providing training and jobs for people of all ages in partnership with other agencies. This is the second training project which has managed to create employment opportunities for trainees with a wide variety of skills." He added, "Full credit for the success of the overall project must surely go to the five trainees who were involved in the works and we congratulate them and Charlie Clark, Project Administrator, on a job well done." Finlay MacIver, Employment Support Officer with CnES, was equally proud of the works undertaken. He said, "Through the Community Employment Initiative, Comhairle na Eilean Siar are committed to supporting community led schemes which provide training and create jobs for people from a wide age range who have been unemployed for more than a year. The successof the facility on Scalpay and the quality of workmanship is a fitting tribute to the sterling efforts of all who were involved in the scheme and we are delighted to have supported it." Mr MacIver added, "This is another successful project with which we have been involved in with Harris Development and we look forward to working with them again on schemes which will provide further training opportunities for people in the Harris area."
