Scalpay Community Hall (5)

The Community Enterprise Awards are run by Business In The Community in partnership with other agencies. They recognise the achievements and determination of local people who initiative community enterprises and devote their energies to improving life in their communities.

As joint winners of the Community Buildings and Facilities category, supported by the Prince of Wales' Institute of Architecture, the Scalpay Community Centre was judged one of the three most imaginative and successful community-led, development projects in the UK out of a record entry of 387 projects who entered the competition. The Community Enterprise Awards are run by Business In The Community in partnership with other agencies. They recognise the achievements and determination of local people who initiative community enterprises and devote their energies to improving life in their communities.

At an Awards ceremony held in Cardiff on March 1, in the presence of HRH The Prince of Wales, three Community Association members were presented with prizes of a £ 1000 cheque, an engraved plague, framed certificate and publicity through special features in the national press. The trip to Cardiff was made possible through financial assistance and support given by Scottish Business In The Community, British Airways, Loganair/Manx Airlines and Western Isles Council. As one of the winners, the Award went a long way towards recognising the community's achievements over the last few years, especially the tremendous work that went into the project.
