Attack on Blair's Political Complexion
OUCH! Tony Blair came in for biting criticism yesterday
as he was giving a speech in Scalpay. He was attending
the official opening of the Scalpay bridge linking the
island to Harris when he was ambushed by a determined
bunch of Caledonian irritants. No, this was not the
Scottish National Party. It was culicoides impunctatus,
the midge, and it proved more adept at drawing political
blood than the entire opposition front bench. But Mr
Blair is not the first illustrious figure to fall foul
of the midge. Bonnie Prince Charlie, history records,
was reduced to "sighs and groans" one night on account
of the performing terrorists. As Mr Blair found out,
they can wipe the smile off anyone's face.
