Info
"
Now I'm not a night-dive type of person. The thought
of getting kitted up in the near dark and launching
myself off a boat into the even darker unknown is simply
not my scene. But when I was told that I would definetely
see octopus at the slip, I decided that this was one
night dive I simply had to try.
It
is so easy! Wander down to the edge of the ferry slip,
sit down, fins on, DV in and roll off. The dive is between
8 - 10m, with a drop off to 20m where the ferry turns.
The lights on the end of the pier make it twilight dive
and on this dive I saw and counted no less than 20 octopus,
the lights from the pier perhaps helping them to hunt
- they are so incredibly cute when their little horns
are up!
Torch
distance of course, mine went out but what's a buddy
for if not to supply you with a torch? High or low water
slack is best if you are going to venture out of the
slip area. The currents in Kyles can be a bit unpredictable
- just watch for the signs: bending kelp, sand movement,
etc.
