prominent is the newer lighthouse, with its red
and white markings, which is now fully automated.

This
plaque sits above the doorway to the house occupied
by Alexander Reid the first lightkeeper at Eilean
Glas Lighthouse.

of the first four lighthouses in Scotland. Begun
in 1787 the lamp was first lit on October 10th
1789."

Eilean
Glas Lighthouse has 2 blocks of accommodation
which were added along with the new tower in 1824-26.
