You can see the beauty of the Loch with you own eyes, there are many similar places let us hope that they remain beautiful for us and our children to enjoy. Many visitors fishing the Loch, fine examples of both Brown and Sea Trout have been caught consistantly. The best method of fishing Trout is fly fishing.
In this photograph you can see the fishfarm cages (owned by Stolt Ltd.) and in the distance you can see the hills of Harris. The Loch is freshwater and the cages are home to many thousands of Salmon (though I think they were empty when this photo was taken). The fish, which are moved here from hatcheries, remain here until they smolt and then they are moved to the sea cages.
Wildlife around the Loch is plentiful, although not blatantly obvious. We have otters who play around various parts of the Loch and they let you get reasonably close and vitually ignore you. I have had one play infront of me being only 3 feet away, that was one occassion when I wish I had a camera with me. Herons frequent the area, especially when the fish farm is in operation as they constantly try to get into the fish.
The Herons stab at the fish through the nets but cannot retrieve them so the cages need to be cleared of "morts" (dead fish) regularly. There are many other birds in the area, one of my favourites is the annual visit by the cuckoo. Her song reverberates around the Loch in such a manner that location of the bird can, on occassion, be impossible.
