The Playpark

Scalpay has long needed an area for the many children to play. The Scalpay Community Association decided to pursue the matter by raising money locally and applying for financial assistance from various bodies. The project was completed in June 1996. The Scalpay Play Area was officially opened by Fraser Falconer [Regional Co-ordinator (Scot.) BBC Children In Need Appeal] on Friday 16th August 1996 on behalf of Scalpay Community Association.

As you can see from the photographs below, there are many items for children of various ages to muck around on. if you wish to view enlargements of the photo's just click on them. The playpark is very popular amongst the little ones but I have noticed that it has become a meeting ground for people of all ages. In the summer it makes a great place to sit down and have your lunch while your children play safely (the ground is covered in that rubberised stuff). Behind the playpark is an area that was planted with various trees but unfortunately they were eaten by the sheep, maybe it will get replanted in the future, providing a perfect backdrop to the park.
