The Golf Star

The Golf Star (photo by Scalpay Diving Services).

This wreck has become a bit of a local landmark. The Gulf Star (a 2000 tonne vessel) was carrying gravel to Germany when, rumour has it, the crew all fell asleep and she ploughed into a reef. The crew were air lifted off safely but all attempts at salvage failed.

The wreck has now been here for several years and the site has become a popular site for divers. The wreck now has much growth on it which is clearly visible. Devon Cup Coral, Dead Men's Fingers, Dahlia and Plumrose Anemones and various sponges encrust the hull. Visibility is usually around 12 - 15m which means that this is an ideal situation for underwater photographers.
