Edible

Greinem
Isand is the small islet between Stilamair and Hamarasay,
it is an excellent site for diving.
Diving
info
This
site makes an excellent wall dive. A boat dive is best
done at slack water but it can be a nice gentle drift.
The scenery makes sitting in the boat waiting for slack
a pleasure. There's every chance that as you are sat
waiting you will see a seal or an otter. There is also
a chance of seeing a Buzzard.
The
wall drops from the surface to about 18m onto a boulder
slope. Some of the boulders are as big as houses, enabling
a brave diver to swim through the gaps to a sandy bed
at 22 - 25m. The current sweeps round the island and
the visibility is usually 12 - 15m on the wall side.
The gap between the islands can sometimes seem a bit
choppy, but there is usually a lee side further round
and entering and exiting from a RIB is relatively easy.
The current is only a problem if you don't like to drift,
so do it at slack.
Marine
Life
There
is a plethora of life in a truly excellent dive. The
wall itself is covered in purple, white and red Dahlia
Anemones, with huge bunches of Plumrose Anemones, Dead
Men's Fingers, Devon Cup Coral and large boring sponges.
Among the boulders at the bottom of the wall live edible
crabs, lobsters, cuckoo wrasse, corking and ballan.
Shoals of Pollock, Cod and Saith cruise around Who could
ask for more?.
