The Sheltered Housing
Above is a photograph of the sheltered housing on Scalpay. There are only a few residents with a warden. The housing is of excellent quality and allows the elderly to maintain a high level of independance while having the availability of assistance when required.The housing is just outside the main village area, allowing a peaceful environment and yet not being too far away as to alienate its residents. In the distance (the end house) is the care unit, which allows those who are not able to fully look after themselves, the support and assistance they require. This facility is often used for short periods and has proved beneficial to several people who have needed it short term (such as after a fall etc.).
