Scalpay
village is the most densely populated area of
the island and where you will find all the ammenities.
In the village is the local primary school,
the community centre, post office, minimarket,
football pitch, The Free Church of Scotland
and The Church of Scotland.
The
village is situated between the North and South
Harbour which both have jetties for the fishing
vessels. This is clearly visable by viewing
this painting by Ivor MacKay.
The
building of the Scalpay Community Centre was
an amazing achievement. It took several years
of organising, planning and fundraising and
involved virtually all the members of the small
community.
