You will find the landscapes breathtaking and the flora and fauna unique. The area provides the resources for many diverse sports. With it's many fresh water and sea lochs the angler will be spoilt for choice in this unspoilt environment. There are various sporting events throughout the year. Surfing, climbing and diving are some of the most popular sports but for those in search of a more leisurely pastime there is much to see and do. The Virtual Hebrides hopes to include info on all of the Hebrides Isles. Interested in living in the Hebrides? - Check out our security cam - Goon Watch
The Islands have some of the finest examples of ancient historical sites of great importance. Although these sites date back to several thousand years B.C. the first mention of the Hebrides was by the Ancient Greeks c. 55 B.C. For further details visit our History Section. Our free ecards section which has Hebridean scenes to send to friends is very popular.
If you are visiting the area for a holiday you will find that a number of these sites can be visited in one day, such as the broch at Carloway (above) and the Callanish Standing Stones (left). For further details on the various islands, visit our Location Section. You will also find the "Travelling Info" useful and important..
To further help you plan your visit we have provided a list of the accommodation available in our Accommodation Section. For those people living here, we have provided a complete and comprehensive list of businesses in the area in our Business Directory and we also have a comprehensive Links Section.
A recent addition is our "Articles" section. Several of our visitors have sent us newspaper clippings, articles they have written and other material. This section will continue to grow on a regular basis so remember to check it out often. There are also many articles, such as the story of the Lewis Chess Men (left) in our other sections.
The area has a rich culture, expressed in it's Music and Arts. We have provided a Scottish Music and an Irish Music Section and we have also provided a collection of Scottish Books which include guide books and history books on the region. We are continually adding to these sections so it is often worth revisiting them on a regular basis but if you are looking for something in particular please do not hesitate to contact us.
